Railton Motorhome Stop Rest Area

OVERNIGHT REST AREA

This is a gravel rest area with no shade. It only has one entrance but there is enough room to turn around. The nearest public toilets are in Lions Park which is one block away opposite the supermarket. These toilets are open 8.00am-8.00pm during daylight savings and 8.00am-5.00pm the rest of the year. There is also a free barbecue in Lions Park.

Facilities include : Covered picnic table : NO barbecues : NO toilet : Drinking water : Rubbish bins provided : Recreation area with an outdoor gym : Dogs are OK - must be kept on a leash at all times : Suitable for all sized caravans – self-contained vehicles only : Maximum stay of 96 hours with no camping permitted : Dump point.

From the north, turn right off the Bass Highway, 9 kilometres south of Devonport (Formby Road turnoff), where it is signposted to Latrobe. Travel 3.5 kilometres (through the township of Latrobe) then turn left onto Railton Road. Travel 13 kilometres then turn right just after crossing the railway line and directly opposite the Railton Hotel, onto The Esplanade. The rest area is 100 metres on the right just past Railway Park.

From the south, turn left off the Bass Highway, 3.5 kilometres north of the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm turnoff at Elizabeth Town, where it is signposted to Railton. Follow the signs to Railton for 20 kilometres then turn right into the main street of Railton. Take the first left onto The Esplanade (opposite the Railton Hotel) and the rest area is 100 metres on the right just past Railway Park.

Sheffield Recreation Ground

This rest area is beside the sportsground

Facilities include : NO picnic tables : NO barbecues : NO toilets : Water : Dogs are OK : Suitable for all sized caravans – self-contained vehicles only : Maximum stay of 96 hours.

Follow Sheffield Road from Railton for 11 kilometres then turn right onto Spring Street. The rest area is 300 metres on the right at the southern end of the sportsground.

Kentish Park Rest Area

OVERNIGHT REST AREA

This rest area is on the eastern shore of Lake Barrington. It is a peaceful spot except when there are rowing events held.

Facilities include : Picnic tables : Fireplaces – supply your own wood : Toilets : Water : Rubbish bins provided : Dogs are OK : Suitable for small caravans only : Maximum stay of 48 hours.

Follow Sheffield Road from Railton, passing through the township of Sheffield, for 12 kilometres, then turn left onto West Kentish Road. Follow this road for 12 kilometres then stay left at the Y-intersection. Travel approximately 500 metres and just before the boat ramp there is a track on the right that leads to a large grassed area surrounded by large trees.

O'Neills Creek Picnic Reserve

OVERNIGHT REST AREA

This reserve has a large grassy area for tents and a concreted section for caravans.

Facilities include : Picnic tables : Fireplaces : Toilets : NO water : Rubbish bins provided : Dogs are OK : Suitable for all sized caravans : Maximum stay of 72 hours.

Follow Sheffield Road from Railton for 10.5 kilometres then turn left at the eastern end of Sheffield onto Claude Road. Follow this road for 14 kilometres and the rest area is on the left.
