Woolomin is on New England Highway (A15)
From this lookout you will enjoy views of the lake, rock wall and spillway tower. The lookout also provides a view of current construction works to raise the dam wall and improve dam safety. The main purpose of the dam is to supply irrigation and stock needs in the Peel River Valley and to supply water to the city of Tamworth.
Turn south off the New England Highway, 6 kilometres south of the Muswellbrook and Sydney turnoff (on the eastern side of the Peel River) at Tamworth, onto Nundle Road. Travel 35 kilometres and the lookout is on the right (6 kilometres south of the Woolomin General Store/Service Station). If you continue south along Nundle Road for 16 kilometres you will arrive at Nundle.
This arboretum is on the north-western shore of Chaffey Dam. It is an attractive garden of solely Australian native trees and shrubs and is looked after totally by volunteers. It is free to visit but prior arrangement is essential. Phone (02) 6764 2290
