Cranky Rock Recreation Reserve

This council run shady nature reserve has a small kiosk/caretakers residence on site where you can get basic refreshments. There are plenty of unpowered sites and 3 powered sites on a first-in-first-serve basis. From the picnic area there is a walking trail which leads over a suspension bridge to an animal enclosure where there are emus, kangaroos and other wildlife, and on to a viewing platform on top of the boulders which is a perfect spot for photographing the area. Fossicking along the creek has been known to turn up agate, jasper, petrified wood, and quartz.

Facilities include : Covered picnic tables : Fireplaces - caretaker supplies wood : Flushing toilets : Open air cold showers : Rubbish bins provided : Childrens playground : Dogs are OK - must be kept under control : Suitable for all sized caravans : A camping fee applies which is to be paid to the caretaker at the kiosk.

Head east from Warialda along the Gwydir Highway for 5 kilometres then turn north onto Cranky Rock Road. The turnoff is well signposted. It is 3 kilometres to the camping area on a well maintained gravel road that is suitable for all vehicles.
