Uranquinty is a village approximately 15 km south of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales with a population of around 800 people. Most of the residents travel north to Wagga Wagga to work.
For trivia buffs, the Latvian-born John and Ilsa Konrad, while living in Uranquinty, were taught to swim by their father as he feared that they may drown in the many creeks and dams in the area. They went on to set 38 individual world swimming records between them, plus they won medals at the Olympic Games during the 1950s and 1960s.
