Mulwala is 30 kilometres south of the Riverina Highway. Mulwala and Yarrawonga are twin towns separated only by a bridge that crosses the Murray River. Mulwala is on the northern side of the Murray River in New South Wales and Yarrawonga is on the southern side of the Murray River in Victoria.

At the Information Centre, which is in Yarrawonga, there is an extensive collection of over 1000 gems, minerals and fossils on display in a well presented simulated mine. A recorded commentary supplements this display which is all on ground level.To get to the centre cross over the Murray River Bridge from the Mulwala then take the first right onto Irvine Street. .
