Karuah is a township that was by-passed by the Pacific Highway in 2004. It sits on both sides of the Karuah River. It has long been known for its oysters, and a number of oyster shops line the main street in the town.
The Karuah Information Centre is located on Tarean Road, 4.5 kilometres from the northern turnoff to Karuah (600m after crossing the bridge) on the right and 4.5 kilometres from the southern turnoff to Karuah on the left, opposite Wattle Street. It is open 9.30am - 3.30pm Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesday). It is also closed New Years Day, Good Friday and Christmas Day.
