Johns River Recreation Reserve Rest Area

OVERNIGHT REST AREA

This is a small, level, grassy rest area parallel with the recreation reserve in Royan Street. It is a dead-end street but there is a wide turnaround section just before the end of the reserve. There is a cafe nearby for coffee, tea and light meals. The rest area does not have a dump point and there is a sign on the toilet block highlighting that cassettes are not to be emptied in the toilets as the treatment system will not cope with the chemicals in the solution.

Facilities include : Picnic table - in recreation reserve : NO barbecues : Toilets - in recreation reserve that are open 24 hours a day : NO water : Children's playground : Rubbish bins provided : Dogs are OK - must be on a leash and must be cleaned up after : Suitable for all except the largest caravans : Maximum stay of 24 hours.

Turn off the Pacific Highway where it is signposted to Johns River onto the old Pacific Highway (Johns River Road), then turn onto Royan Street which is next to the children's playground in the recreation reserve.

Johns River Rest Area

DAY USE ONLY REST AREA

This rest area is in the village of Johns River. There is plenty of parking for caravans parallel with the road and the recreation reserve.

Facilities include : Covered picnic table, NO barbecue : Flush toilets : Water - taps over hand-basins : Children's playground : Information bay : Rubbish bins provided : Dogs are OK - must be on a leash : Suitable for all sized caravans.

Turn off the Pacific Highway where it is signposted to Johns River, onto the Old Pacific Highway. It is well signposted.

Coopernook Forest Rest Area

OVERNIGHT REST AREA

This large grassy rest area is approximately 5 kilometres west of the Pacific Highway along an unsealed road. You may experience some corrugations (depending whether it has been recently graded) so drive to the conditions. At the camping area there are lots of large shady trees. There is a 15 minute easy loop walk along the forest road from the rest area through large shady trees.

Facilities include : Covered picnic tables : Wood barbecues and fireplaces – supply your own wood : Drop toilet : Tank water - not suitable to drink and reliant on rain : NO rubbish bins : NO power : Dogs are OK : Suitable for all sized caravans.

From the north, exit the Pacific Highway 8.5 kilometres south of Johns River where it is signposted to Moorland South/Jericho Road/Forest Road. Follow the signs to Forest Drive through two roundabouts. Follow this gravel road until you reach a Y-intersection. Stay on the left where it is signposted to the picnic area. From there you will cross a small bridge and the entrance to the rest area is another 1 kilometre on the right.

From the south exit the Pacific Highway 6.5 kilometres north of the Harrington turnoff where it is signposted to Jericho Road/Forest Drive. Follow the road around under the highway, then turn left at the T-intersection onto Jericho Road. Continue through the tiny village of Moorland then follow the signs to Forest Drive when you reach the roundabouts. Follow this gravel road until you reach a Y-intersection. Stay on the left where it is signposted to the picnic area. From there you will cross a small bridge and the entrance to the rest area is another 1 kilometre on the right.

Tom Cat Creek Rest Area

DAY USE ONLY REST AREA

This rest area is beside the highway and has lots of shady trees. It is not a drive-through area but there is a turning circle at the end of the driveway. It is situated on the northbound side of the highway but can be accessed by southbound vehicles as well. If heading south the rest area entrance is easy to miss.
Facilities include : Covered picnic tables : Fireplaces - supply your own wood : Toilets – wheelchair accessible : Water - not suitable to drink : Rubbish bins provided : Dogs are OK : Suitable for all sized caravans.

Located 5 kilometres south of Johns River and 10 kilometres north of the Harrington turn off.
