Guyra is one of the highest towns in Australia at 1,330 metres above sea level. The town is known for its extremely cold winters, by Australian standards, with an average of 59 frosty nights each year with subzero temperatures and some snowfalls. The Guyra Information Centre is on the western side of the New England Highway, south of the Guyra/Ebor Road and Tingha Road intersection, and across the road from Rotary Park. Tourist brochures can also be obtained at the truckstop, just north of the Guyra township on the New England Highway.
