Elong Elong is on Golden Highway (B84)
According to State Archives information, the village was named Elong Elong because it was established on part of Elong Elong Station. The locals have a theory that Elong Elong is an Aboriginal word for 'deep water holes', while others joke that it is simply so good that it was named twice.
The Elong Elong Public Hall is the hub of the village, and has been used for many functions over the years, like dances, parties, weddings and celebrations, as well as rural meetings and Council meetings. Elong Elong has both Anglican and Catholic Church services, held in the Community Hall and St Therese Catholic Church respectively.
This 'blink and you'll miss it' village has all the essential services plus there are a number of farming enterprises in the area including organics, seeds and even pistachios as well as various horse studs.
