Mountain Top Rest Area

DAY USE ONLY REST AREA

This sealed rest area is beside the highway with shady trees around the edge.

Facilities include : Picnic tables : NO barbecues : Toilets : NO water : Rubbish bins provided : Dogs are OK : Suitable for all sized caravans.

Located 4 kilometres east of Dorrigo and 2 kilometres east of the turn off to the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, on the eastbound side of the road.

Griffiths Mountain Top Lookout

DAY USE ONLY REST AREA

This lookout is 750 metres above sea level at the crest of the Dorrigo Mountain. It has beautiful views over the Bellinger Valley and the New England National Park ranges. It is a lovely spot with lots of shady trees. There is an interpretive board explaining about the area which includes a map and information on the flora and fauna of the area. There is room for caravans to park around the sealed circular driveway.

Turn west off Waterfall Way, 4.5 kilometres east of Dorrigo (2 kilometres east of the Rainforest Centre turnoff and on the opposite side of the road to the Mountain Top Rest Area), onto Maynards Plains Road then turn left onto Mountain Top Road. Follow this narrow sealed road for 4 kilometres to the end of the road.

Scenic View Picnic Area

DAY USE ONLY REST AREA

This picnic area is in recognition of Trooper Mark Donaldson VC. There are large maple trees giving lots of shade in the summer and a blaze of autumn colour before the onset of winter. There is a circular driveway suitable for caravans to turn around. There is also a shelter which include three panels, one outlining the history of the Victoria Cross, one with information about the conflict in Afghanistan and the role of Special Air Service (SAS) troops there, and one about Mark Donaldson himself and his connection with Dorrigo.

Turn north off Waterfall Way at the eastern entrance to Dorrigo onto Rosewood Street and follow it to the park which is 100 metres away adjacent to the Council Depot.
