The Midland Highway, which is also known as the Heritage Highway, runs in a north/south direction from Launceston in the north to Bridgewater in the south. Bridgewater is at the junction of the Lyell Highway, 20 kilometres north of Hobart. Most of the highway is two-laned (one lane in each direction) except near Hobart and Launceston where there are dual carriageways. It is 180 kilometres long and a 2 hour drive.
