The Great Western Highway runs from Broadway (Sydney) in a westerly direction through Strathfield and on to the large intersection of Woodville Road and the M4 Motorway. It heads north from this intersection under the M4 Motorway along Church Street, then turns west again. It continues through Penrith onto Emu Plains where it joins the M4 Motorway which becomes the Great Western Highway. From there it continues west over the Great Dividing Range to Bathurst where it meets the Mid Western Highway and the Mitchell Highway.
