The Carpentaria Highway runs east from the Stuart Highway, (4 kilometres south of the Daly Waters turnoff and 44 kilometres north of the Dunmarra Roadhouse), to Borroloola. It is 382 kilometres long and an 8 hour drive and it is best to travel in the dry season. When you continue northeast from Borroloola along Robinson Road you will arrive at the Bing Bong Port, which exports lead and zinc, extracted from the open cut mine nearby. The Carpentaria Highway is a small section of Savannah Way, which runs from Cairns in Queensland to Broome in Western Australia.
