The Buchanan Highway runs west from the Stuart Highway, between Daly Waters to the north and the Dunmarra Roadhouse to the south. It then continues to the Victoria Highway, just east of the Timber Creek Roadhouse. It is 390 kilometres long and unsealed for it’s entire length. It is estimated to take approximately 9 hours to travel. This highway can play havoc on your vehicle with lots of large potholes, and hairpin bends to negotiate. You also have to cross the Victoria River causeway, but don’t be tempted to go for a swim because the river is infested with saltwater crocodiles.
